The Design Brief

Tackling Urban Heatwaves

Identify smart approaches, technologies and materials that can be used to (a) retrofit existing public structures and spaces, and (b) develop principles for the design of future public structures and spaces. Further, (c) develop a strategy for how the Netherlands Red Cross and its Red Cross and Red Crescent (RC/RC) Movements partners can advocate to government at various levels, and private sector partners to ensure these principles are actionable in the future.

The Concept

For Gen Z, Pangea offers the ultimate digital platform that is globally active in creating awareness, developing solutions and preventing the consequences of climate change, and gives people the feeling of being valued by contributing their own expertise to societal issues. Gen-Z cares greatly about the environment and wants to save it while they still can, however, this generation is also characterized by its individualism: everyone contributes in their own way with their own expertise.

This sense of individualism results in a lack of community feel, an aspect Pangea wants to eliminate by bringing people together for a bigger purpose. Furthermore, the technology embedded in their everyday culture makes this group the most up to date with technological developments and smart approaches to problem solving. With a rebranding and new business model, Pangea brings the Red Cross into the 21st century and reestablishes itself as the leading organisation in innovation and humanitarian aid amongst the future leaders of the world.
